Adventure Travel in South America Should All Include Tours of Chile

Article by Robert Marriott

I’ve been taking a look at overseas adventure travel and tours of Chile in particular.I check out companies with reliable and responsible adventure travel policies in place and that are proven. These companies have, over the years, created holidays for adventure travellers, people that are seeking to experience the heart of a country and who would like to travel in a manner that engages them much more fully than ordinary holidays do. Read on and I’ll tell you about a good way to find them later.

I have found wonderful holidays in Chile that stand up to any test. Anyone with a two week holiday period to fill would be very richly rewarded by a trip to Chile.

Chile is a long, narrow, coastal county that lies between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean. It is over 4000 kilometres long and has a climate that ranges from desert in the north, Mediterranean in the centre, and rainy, temperate in the south.

It is a country rich in culture. The north was ruled by the Incas prior to the arrival of the Spaniards and the Mapuche people resided in the central and southern regions. The north is extremely fascinating since it has Incaic architecture, the lakes of the Altiplano and the Valley of the moon. Furthermore in Putre there’s Chungara Lake and Parinacota and Pomerape volcanoes. In the center of Chile you will find many wonderful ski resorts, and the south has great coastal regions and national parks, such as Torres Del Paine. Chile is the place you go in order to travel to Easter Island.

Interestingly, Chile has in excess of three thousand varieties of fungi (at the last count!). The northern desert region is barren of plant life as it’s the driest desert in the world, fifty times more dry than Death Valley in California. The salt lakes continue for miles and mummies 2000 years older than those found in Egypt have been preserved here. In marked contrast the south of the country has thick reforested land of magnolias, laurels, and various varieties of conifers and beeches.

Tours in Chile: Atacama Desert tours

This is a fascinating 4-day trip through the Atacama Desert. It may be added onto a vacation in Chile and reserved prior to leaving home.It begins in San Pedro de Atacama, in the center of the desert, here you will see amazing oases which will appear like magic as the region has little or no rainfall, and at sunset there’s a show of unusual hues because the light shines through the feathers of hundreds of different bird species like, pink flamingos, wild geese and Andean Gulls.

Here you’ll also go to the museums with amazing seven thousand year old mummies and archaeological relics. You’ll visit the Tres Marias rock formations, salt caves, and the ‘Valle de la Luna’. Also there is a whole day tour to the village of Toconao with its liparita stone buildings.

It’s incredible how much you can do in as little as four days! You’re going to naturally be led by an experienced local guide who’ll do everything to make sure you have a fantastic time meeting local people and experiencing exactly what life in the driest desert on earth is really like.

Tours of Chile

Southern Sojourn: Buenos Aires to Santiago:

This is an introduction to Chile and Argentina and is a tour that stood out for me because it is really flexible. It allows you to opt in and out of activities, and gives you spare time to explore on your own. It is also a budget trip where you travel by public transport and stay in affordable accommodation to keep the costs down. This also and gives you great opportunities to meet local people. It takes you on a hike in upper Patagonia, and to special places where you eat wonderfully fresh seafood. You can opt to go on a wine tasting tour, watch a Tango, dance the night away in the city, and choose your own adventure. The trip includes a short flight and has a leisurely pace giving you the perfect combination of guided excursions and free time to explore at your own pace.

Adventure travel: Tierra del Fuego National Park

The western part Tierra del Fuego is in Chile. This incredible seaside national park covers 63,000 square kilometres, but much of it is off-limits leaving only a small part of it open to visitors. This tour takes you on short hikes giving you the opportunity to see the stunning vistas, shimmering blue lakes, snow-capped peaks and glaciers. You will also visit Seal’s Island and Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse. It’s the perfect place to find numerous types of birds as well as mammals.

These holidays in Chile are only an illustration some of the excellent tours of Chile that you can get on the web. They’d suit a person with a longing to explore and experience the rich culture and adventure Chile has to offer.
